Letter to President-Elect Obama re: the FairTax

Dear President-Elect Obama.

Even though I did not vote for you, I wish you tremendous success in office.  Our country is broken and it is in need of serious solutions.

Short of rolling back all legislation 100 years which, I believe, would be amazing for our nation, my greatest desire for all current and future generations is passage of the FairTax bill.

In short, the FairTax will bring freedom and prosperity back to our lands - freedom because citizens will be able to pay taxes when they choose - when they consume...  prosperity because stripping taxes from investment and productivity will invite capital, business, and jobs back to our lands.  When our nations' citizens thrive, our government is well-funded and will thrive as well.

Specifically, the FairTax would:
  1. Remove a key incentive for outsourcing of non-tech/non-professional jobs.  Yes, education for professional jobs is terrific but not everyone can be a doctor, lawyer, financial planner, software developer.  Our nation needs to produce things as well.  Our abusive/intrusive tax structure - specifically Payroll, Corporate, and Capital Gains taxes - chases many jobs that often-times are stepping stone jobs (call center operators, etc.) for younger workers away from our lands.
  2. Make the U.S. a tax haven and attract jobs at all levels to our lands.  By removing the Capital Gains Tax, investment can grow within our lands tax-free.
  3. Level the playing field between small, large, and enterprise-sized business by reducing the complexity of tax compliance for business.  Enterprise business has an economies-of-scale advantage purely from a tax compliance stand-point.  Simplify tax compliance and entrepreneurship will thrive!
  4. Be more progressive than the current tax structure.  Payroll taxes are the most regressive tax around since they start from dollar #1 earned.  This hits the less fortunate the hardest.  The FairTax removes payroll taxes from earning and funds Social Security and Medicare through the general fund.  Families will chose when to contribute to the tax system when they pay for new goods and services (not education) beyond the poverty-level.  The poverty-level is key since legal family are rebated their anticipated taxes up to the poverty level.  My family of four would get $537 per month rebated to untax our consumption up to the $28,000 poverty level.  This means that all families' survival is made the top priority ahead of any contribution toward our nations taxes (as it should be).
  5. Remove a key incentive for illegal immigrants to stay within our lands.  Since illegal immigrants do not qualify for the tax prebate, they will pay taxes on consumption of all new goods and services.  This is important... not only will illegal immigrants finally contribute to government services, so will tourists who visit our lands...  so will the underground economy who avoid/evade current taxes.
  6. Streamline tax compliance tremendously.  Businesses who sell to consumers within our lands collect the tax and forward it up to the state with state sales taxes.  By eliminating personal tax returns and business-to-business tax obligations and by drastically reducing the tax complexity, we can scale back 90% of the IRS and stop wasting productive time of business people and citizens.  Our nation wastes $300+ million each year on tax compliance which can be put toward advancing our nation instead.
Please make a point of learning about the FairTax.  Your former primary opponent, Mike Gravel, gets it.  Please seek his opinion.

We were founded as a proud and free nation.  Please help us get back by supporting the FairTax.
